In recent years, we've written extensively about master limited partnerships (MLPs) that are building out the nation's network of oil and gas pipelines.
The investment theme has been a winner for two simple reasons:
Cash flows (and hence dividends) are predictable. A steady industry expansion has led to solid growth for many of the top players. With this kind of long-term predictability, it's no wonder MLPs are some of our favorite "Forever" investments. (Coined by StreetAuthority co-founder Paul Tracy, "Forever" investments are ones you can buy, hold and simply "forget about" while they steadily rise over the long term.)
One of the reasons we consider MLPs "Forever" investments is because, unlike some booms that fade after a few years, this boom has legs. Another wave of pipeline construction is underway to help carry landlocked energy to coastal refineries. And in coming quarters, there's a solid chance the Obama administration will give a formal green light to gas export facilities, which could trigger a whole new wave of pipeline development.

Top stock No. 3: The supplier
National Oilwell Varco (NYSE: NOV ) just might be the safest name on this list. Risk here is mitigated as the company has no direct commodity price exposure, while its leading market share and worldwide operations provide an extra layer of cushion. This pick-and-shovel approach to the worldwide oil and gas drilling boom means that National Oilwell Varco can continue to sell its wares no matter where drillers find the next sources of oil and gas. Those are just some of the many reasons I made it my top stock to buy this month.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Seth Jayson]
Margins matter. The more Anaren (Nasdaq: ANEN ) keeps of each buck it earns in revenue, the more money it has to invest in growth, fund new strategic plans, or (gasp!) distribute to shareholders. Healthy margins often separate pretenders from the best stocks in the market. That's why we check up on margins at least once a quarter in this series. I'm looking for the absolute numbers, so I can compare them to current and potential competitors, and any trend that may tell me how strong Anaren's competitive position could be.
- [By Richard Moroney]
Anaren (ANEN), a leading maker of microwave components for wireless communications and defense electronics, has bright growth prospects.
The space and defense division is benefiting from strong demand for radar equipment. The wireless division is benefiting from increased demand for cellular infrastructure equipment.

Has Activision (NASDAQ: ATVI ) turned the corner with investors? Will Whole Foods (NASDAQ: WFM ) continue to grow its margins? Will Clean Harbors (NYSE: CLH ) clean up on Wall Street? In this installment of Motley Fool Money, our analysts discuss three stocks to watch.
- [By Damian Illia]
Furthermore, the company has a wide economic moat largely stemming from three factors: its efficient scale, its high switching costs and its intangible assets. Of the 20 commercial hazardous-waste landfills operational in the U.S., the majority are run by US Ecology and its main competitors Waste Management Inc. (WM), and Clean Harbors Inc. (CLH). With barriers to entry stemming from regulatory permits, and a limited market size, ECOL has managed to achieve an efficient scale in the market with five hazardous waste-sides. The company intangible assets consist of long-term regulatory permits, which enable US Ecology to posses a atekeeper privilegeregarding barriers to new entrants. In addition, customer switching costs are high, thus further adding to the firm ability to sustain growth in the long term.

ATW, which next reports earnings on May 1st, has a market cap of only $3.32 billion, which is bite-size for a XOM or a GE. Another one-swallow menu item for these behemoth acquirers is a company like Clean Harbors, Inc. (CLH), which steps into the earnings confessional on April 29th.

Clean Harbors (NYSE: CLH )
I love finding companies that fly under the radar, and Clean Harbors is one. It's a smaller company with a market cap of just over $3 billion. But with its founder Alan McKim steering the ship as CEO, I think there is plenty of room for this company to grow. Oh yeah, did I also mention McKim owns almost 8% of shares outstanding? I love founder/leaders like McKim (and Bezos) who eat their own cooking.
